WHAT IS MEDIATION

How UK Mediation can help you

UK Mediation's team of experts are based in York and operate across the UK.

What is mediation?

Mediation involves a neutral third party facilitating a discussion between two or more disputing parties, with the intention of finding a resolution. Mediation is a completely voluntary process and is often the first port of call before disputes are taken to a small claims court.

Discussions will take place in a neutral environment, ideally with a room for each client and an extra space to bring the clients together. A mediator will move between the two clients, asking questions to build a neutral picture of the dispute and unlock the key to a resolution. No solution will be imposed, however the clients will be brought together at the end of the day and a mutually satisfactory solution will try to be reached.

Mediation can be used for a range of personal and commercial disputes, including:

  • Child custody
  • Divorce
  • Medical negligence
  • Personal injury & accident claims
  • Landlord & tenant disputes
  • Compensation claims
  • Injunctions

Why choose mediation?

There are many benefits to choosing mediation, including:

  • There are no losers -  the aim of mediation is to find a mutually satisfactory resolution.
  • High success rates
  • Greater control over the outcome than you would if the issue was taken to court.
  • Confidential - There will be no publicity of your mediation and everything said is kept confidential.
  • Cost-effective - Mediation is generally significantly cheaper than trying to settle an issue through court.
  • Preservation of relationships - Whether your dispute is between your family or a business partner, mediation focuses on relationship preservation and a mutual agreement.
  • Quick outcome - Unlike taking a dispute to court, a mediator can reach an outcome as quickly as within 24 hours.
